The Committee on Transport was established pursuant to ESCWA resolution 213 (XIX) issued May 1997. The Committee is made up of representatives of the ESCWA member States and is entrusted to assume the following tasks:

1. Participate in the establishment and formulation of priorities for programmes of work and medium-term plans in the field of transport;

2. Monitor developments in the field of transport in ESCWA member States;

3. Monitor progress achieved in the activities of the ESCWA secretariat in the field of transport;

4. Ensure the participation of member States in international and regional conferences and coordinate member States efforts related to the implementation of resolutions and recommendations.
