Issues of importance for the future of the ESCWA region:
The strengthening of Arab regional cooperation (item 9 (b))

The representative of the secretariat presented the report contained in E/ESCWA/22/6/Add.1. During the discussion, interventions were made by the delegates of Egypt and Oman and the representative of the League of Arab States.

Draft programme of work and priorities for the biennium 2004-2005 (item 10)

The representative of the secretariat presented the draft programme of work set forth in document E/ESCWA/22/7. During the discussion, interventions were made by the delegates of Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Oman, the Syrian Arab Republic and Yemen.

The role of ESCWA in coordinating regional activities of the United Nations system (item 11)

The representative of the secretariat presented the draft programme of work set forth in document E/ESCWA/22/8. During the discussion, interventions were made by the delegate of Yemen and the representative of the National Committee for UNESCO.

Designating the sessions of the Commission as the forum for a biennial pledging conference: resolution 236 (XXI) (item 12)

The representative of the secretariat presented the report contained in E/ESCWA/22/9/Rev.1.

Time and venue of the twenty-third session of the Commission (item 13)

The twenty-third session of the Commission will be held in April 2005.
