Activity Title: The Flagship Project for Youth
Brief: UNESCO Jordan Office has finalized the inter-agency crosscutting theme project for youth in Jordan, which focuses on young boys and girls aged (14 -25). It should lead to behavioral changes as regards to gender and HIV/AIDS and targets in-school and out-of school youth in Jordan, teachers, parents and other groups in the community by producing policy papers and an integrated plan of action, sufficiently appropriate to the cultural context using curriculum reform and the media and new technologies. The use of internet will in this programme, help overcome traditional, cultural and religious barriers as it is anonymous, young people will speak more freely about taboos and problems. This project will understandably use the cultural approach for behavioral changes. The project will be implemented in close cooperation with UNICEF, UNFPA, WHO and the concerned national authorities.

Within the first phase of the Project, Radio Jordan will train young people to acquire skills in operating youth community radio and will allocate 30 minutes to 2 hours a week for “The Voice of Youth” at the national radio. Major areas of focus will be intergenerational /peer dialogue, gender issues and preventive health education. Some mobile equipment and transportation cost has been allocated within and outside Amman for interviews, so as to reach the out-of school youth and the marginalized youth.
