UNRWA’s Relief and Social services Department (RSSD) supports community-based development programmes for the refugee communities focusing on children, youth, women and disabled persons. These programmes are implemented within the local communities in all five fields of operation (Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, West Bank and Gaza), and assist in networking and partnering between various local and international community based organizations.
Youth and children, who constitute a significant portion of the refugee population, benefit from the targeted activities that address their interests and needs. All activities aim at helping them lead more productive lives through the promotion of activities such as informal education, skills training, credit extension, gender awareness, rehabilitation and integration of disabled persons, as well as social and recreational activities
