In cooperation with UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Jordan Chamber of Industry, ESCWA organized a training workshop on “The Role of Productivity Improvement in Enhancing Competitiveness of Manufacturing Firms in Jordan” during the month of June.
The workshop aimed at providing participants with theoretical concepts and techniques to improve productivity in order to enhance competitiveness of manufacturing firms, which includes good management of resources, factor costs, assessment, quality standard enhancement, development and innovation.
Participants were 22 from public and private sectors. Discussions revolved around theoretical concepts on productivity and competitiveness and good management; main strategies for upgrading enterprises and new opportunities for enhancing their competitiveness; management of human resources and costs, and the application of quality standards. Participants tackled ways to promote innovation and research activities and development and their impact on productivity, and enhance the value added, in addition to assessment methods and measuring tools. Highlights were also made on green economy and environmental goods, services and standards.
