MDG Training for the Media
With only five years left until the 2015 deadline to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called on world leaders to attend a summit in New York on 20-22 September to accelerate progress towards the MDGs. As media plays the bigger part in this issue by bringing to light its importance to people. ESCWA partnered with UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Beirut to spread awareness of the MDGs amid young reporters. Over two days, participants in the training worked with ESCWA Social Statistics Regional Adviser Adib Nehme on the upcoming MDG Summit, sustainable social development, the MDGs, development organizations and media, and their role in accomplishing MDGs.
