What We Do
Our focus is to promote regional solutions for regional problems. We seek to provide value added through emphasis on mulit-disciplinary work and UN interagency cooperation.
Our role is to:
- Advise the Executive Secretary of UNESCWA on overall strategic direction, priorities and policies in the areas of programme planning, budgeting, monitoring, and evaluation, technical cooperation and results-based management;
- Guide and coordinate the planning of the programme of work of UNESCWA, including preparation of the strategic framework and programme budget; plan, certify and manage the use of all budgetary resources and ensure their effective and efficient utilisation;
- Plan, guide and assist in the development of the UNESCWA technical cooperation programmes; manage technical cooperation trust funds, and oversee relations with donor governments and agencies;
- Monitor and evaluate the UNESCWA programme implementation and budgetary performance, including delivery of its technical cooperation activities and regional advisory services;
- Coordinate preparations for and servicing of biennial sessions of the Commission related to programme planning, monitoring, and evaluation, and technical cooperation.
- Ensure multi-disciplinarity in the work of UNESCWA, as well as interregional (among Regional Commissions) and interagency (among UN agencies at the regional level) cooperation.
