: : : : THE DIGITAL ARABIC CONTENT COMPETITION

Within the framework of the project “Promotion of the Digital Arabic Content Industry through Incubation” which was initiated in 2007, UN-ESCWA, in collaboration with selected technology incubators in the region is organizing several national competitions to incubate the best digital Arabic content (DAC) projects during the second half of 2008. The competition is open to young entrepreneurs as well as university and college graduates who have a project idea or a concept that would contribute to the development of the DAC industry.

Launching events are taking place in Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan, Syria and Yemen to overview the competition and modalities of participation where the DAC competition essentially aims at:

• Encouraging university graduate to work in the DAC domain in view of its importance and the available opportunities to access the market;

• Instigating entrepreneurs and guide them towards new investment opportunities;

• Selecting the best projects applying to the competition for a one-year incubation at the involved technology incubator;

• Raising awareness on the importance of DAC and promote this industry in the region.

The Information and Communication Technology Division at UN-ESCWA in cooperation with Palestine Information and Communication Technology Incubator (PICTI), launched the Digital Arabic Content Competition in Palestine on 25 June 2008. The event took place at PICTI premises in Al Bireh, Ramallah and included presentations on the importance and opportunities of the digital Arabic content industry, the Digital Arabic Content Competition and modalities of participation; and the services offered by PICTI for winning projects.

Over 40 participants attended the event representing different universities, enterprises as well as graduates and entrepreneurs.

All eligible and interested parties are now encouraged to fill out and submit the application form before the set deadline on 31 July 2008.
