a) Gender parity indices (GPI) are calculated as the ratio of women to men. A value less than 1 implies an inequality in favor of men, a value greater that 1 implies an inequality in favour of women and a value of women implies equality.

b) GPI for net enrolment ratios in primary education in  Comoros, Iraq, Sudan and Yemen pertain to the year 1999/2000.

c)  GPI for net enrolment ratios in secondary education in Jordan, Morocco and Yemen pertain to the year 1999/2000.

d) Country data for GPI for gross enrolment ratios in tertiary education pertain to the following years: Bahrain, 1998/1999; Comoros, 1999/2000; Kuwait, 1998/1999; Sudan, 1998/1999; and Yemen, 1999/2000.
