Labour force
Includes all persons who fulfill the
requirement for inclusion among the employed or unemployed, measured
in relation to a short reference period such as one day or one week.
Same as economically active population.
Labour force survey
Usually conducted each month, quarter,
half-yearly or annually. The geographical coverage can differ, as
can the topics covered by the survey.
Life
expectancy
Estimate of the number of years to be
lived by a female or male newborn, based on current age-specific
mortality rates.
Life
expectancy at birth
Average number of years a new-born
infant would live if prevailing patterns of mortality were to
continue throughout the child's life.
Live
birth
Complete expulsion or extraction from
its mother of a product of conception, irrespective of the duration
of pregnancy, which after such separation breathes or shows any
other evidence of life, such as beating of the heart, pulsation of
the umbilical cord or definite movement of voluntary muscle, whether
or not the umbilical cord has been cut or the placenta is attached;
each product of such a birth is considered live-born, regardless of
the gestation age.
Long-term unemployment
Those people who have been unemployed
for 12 months or more.
