The development objectives‎

Several UN agencies have undertaken activities in Iraq to compile gender-disaggregated data in a number of ‎fields. However, the Development of National Gender Statistics in Iraq Project institutionalizes gender ‎mainstreaming in the entire national statistical system by aiming to gender sensitize actors (statisticians and ‎other employees), processes (data collection methods and techniques) and instruments (concepts, definitions ‎and classifications). Funded by the United Nations Development Group Iraq Trust Fund, the 18-month project ‎aims to:‎‎

‎-‎ Raise awareness on the importance of gender statistics in policy formulation and monitoring, and gender ‎mainstreaming of statistical work

‎-‎ Improve national capacities to produce, analyze and disseminate quality gender statistics and indicators ‎needed for evidence-based policy-making, with a particular focus on mainstreaming gender equality and ‎women’s empowerment

The beneficiaries

Producers and users of statistics from national statistical departments, government bodies, NGOs, research ‎centers and academia… with the inclusion of women and men from throughout Iraq to ensure broad-based ‎participation and national ownership.‎‎
