Beirut, 3 April 2003 (United Nations Information Service)--Under
the auspices of the President of the Lebanese Republic Emile
Lahoud, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for
Western Asia (ESCWA) will be holding its 22nd Session from 14 to
17 April at the UN House, Riad Solh Square, Beirut.
Participants in the Session will be ministers and high-level
officials from ESCWA Member States (Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan,
Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the Syrian
Arab Republic, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen).
Representatives from concerned United Nations agencies and
programs, regional and international governmental and
non-governmental organizations will also attend the Session.
The sessions of ESCWA are the high-level organ entrusted in
designing the general policies of the Regional Commission.
It is worth noting that Saudi Arabia Foreign Minister Prince Saud
al-Faisal and ESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy discussed
in a phone call, Wednesday, the role of the Commission in
enhancing regional integration and cooperation.
