Beirut, 2 December 2003
(United Nations Information Service)--The
United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia
(ESCWA), in cooperation with the Federal Institute for Geosciences
and Natural Resources (BGR) in Germany, is organizing a workshop
on “Preparation for Training on Enhancing Negotiation Skills on
Shared Water Issues” designed for Palestinian delegates on 5-6
December 2003 at the Movenpick Hotel, Dead Sea, Jordan.
The main objective of this meeting, which will open at 9:00 am on
Friday 5 December 2003, is to assist Palestinians in enhancing
their knowledge for negotiations through focused discussions with
experts from neighboring Arab countries who have been involved in
international water conflicts and dispute management.
The workshop will also highlight technical, political and legal
frameworks related to the situation of water resources for
Palestine. Specialists from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria will
give presentations on relevant experiences from the region.
Participants in this meeting will be Palestinian water experts,
managers, decision makers, professionals, and scientists who are
actively involved in issues related to shared water resources, in
addition to participants from the Palestinian Water Authority (PWA)
and other water-related agencies, universities and research
centers from Gaza, and the West Bank. Resource persons from Egypt,
Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria will also participate to enrich the
discussions on the Palestinian water issues with their own
experience in these neighboring countries.
