Combating domestic violence against women and girls: Policies to empower women in the Arab region

This study aims to examine the phenomenon of domestic violence against women and girls in the Arab region. It analyses domestic violence against women and girls from various facets, namely, socio-cultural and legal; and looks into its economic impact and cost. The study examines measures taken by Arab countries in combating violence and sheds light on the role of civil society organizations in addressing this problem at both national and regional levels. The study generates evidence-based policy recommendations addressed to Arab States to scale up their commitment to combat violence against female population groups, particularly in the domestic sphere, in order to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in Arab societies.
