This website serves as a portal that routes interested users to international, regional and national population information through hyperlinks. This web site is the first comprehensive population portal that caters for the national and regional needs for population information in Western Asia. ESCWA Population and Development Team serves as the regional institutional basis to host the POPIN Western Asia website.

In addition, the POPIN Western Asia website directly disseminates population and demographic information that users can access through the internet. Finally, the website contains a number of links to internationally generated population data and information relevant to the Western Asia region, displays up-to-date news on population and related development issues and meetings and connects to electronic resources on the web, like dictionaries, databases or compendia.

While ESCWA is the regional-hub for providing population information, Global POPIN serves as an umbrella. POPIN is part of the Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) of the United Nations Secretariat and funded by UNFPA.
