Regional Coordination Mechanism (RCM) is convened to increase cooperation and collaboration among UN regional entities and their development partners in addressing regional development issues in the region. The RCM in the Arab region covers not only West Asia region but extends to covers all 22 Arab countries. A number of global UN policy initiatives have been introduced in support of simplification and harmonization of UN operations, and programmatic coherence. These initiatives highlight, inter-alia, the importance of regional cooperation in addressing regional development challenges, and the need for the UN system and regional organizations to play complementary roles in addressing these issues.
The RCM is convened by the Executive Secretary of ESCWA to report on regional coordination of UN programmes in West Asia and the Arab world. ESCWA also provides the necessary administrative and substantive support to the RCM and their follow up. |
